Professional Development

Putting the “A” into STEM

Creativity is an essential skill for STEM. It is more than arts integration, STEAM involves mindset and creativity tools for the teachers to lead the students on the journey of discovery. Don’t let STEAM be a paint by numbers experience.

Social Emotional Learning

FableVision Learning’s Social Emotional Learning program ties the CASEL framework to the books of Peter H. Reynolds. These books provide a scaffolding for both teachers and students.

The opposite of “dry” delivery, we develop an atmosphere of playfulness for the teachers to encourage them to feel great about themselves before returning to the classroom. This program can be on-site or virtual.

SEL Creativity With Heart

Social-emotional learning is a vital part of supporting the growth of the whole person. When we build skills in understanding and managing emotions and relationships, we help ourselves and our students to thrive. Creativity with Heart is a customizable workshop that brings together the foundation of social-emotional support with the joy of creation and self-expression. Aligned with CASEL's framework and supported with children's literature by Peter H. Reynolds and his friends, teachers will explore tools, skills, and activities to nurture the hearts of their students. Email us at info@fablevisionlearning.com to learn more.

Student Program Implementations

Our custom student programs are used during the school day, in after-school programs, summer camps and in public libraries. Each program includes curriculum models ready for delivery, instructor training, and appropriate software tools (like Animation-ish and FabMaker Studio).

Examples of custom programs:

North Star Digital Storytelling Program: In the “North Star,” by Peter H. Reynolds, a young boy wanders aimlessly through the forest feeling lost, with forces pushing him to the “right path to follow.” However, for each of us, we have our own path which needs to be uncovered and nurtured. This is the basis of this program for students. This creative, project-based program features an intentional focus on imagining and working toward students’ “future selves,” which, as Educational Psychologist and Creativity Researcher E. Paul Torrance discovered in one of the most comprehensive, longitudinal studies of creative achievement, is the “best predictor of lifelong personal and publicly recognized creative achievement--even better than academic indicators such as school grades and IQ scores--was the extent to which children had a clear future-focused image of themselves.”

Through the North Star Digital Storytelling Program students will develop critical creativity and communication skills, as well as digital literacy and social emotional development required for success in the modern workforce, and required to break the cycle of dysfunction.

The North Star Digital Storytelling Program includes self-discovery components and builds to a sharing of self through animation.

Student Animation Showcase from D75 in New York City

Digital Storytelling After-School Program for D75: For 6 years, we’ve worked with New York City’s District 75. This school setting provides specialized instructional support for students with challenges such as: autism spectrum disorders; significant cognitive delays; emotional disturbances; and sensory impairments. We provide D75 students the tools to discover their own creativity, to learn about themselves, and most importantly, to provide a way to share about themselves. Students explore both animation and book writing with year-end gala featuring Peter H. Reynolds. One year the gala was held at the Scholastic Headquarters in New York City.

Be You After-School Program for Jaffrey-Rindge School District: We worked with Jaffrey-Rindge School District to implement an exciting after-school program for K - 8/9 students to support personal and academic success through the use of creative tools and engaging projects. Clubs for K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 were provided 3 semesters of programs including digital story telling and maker projects. An end of year includes a celebration with Peter H Reynolds for students to share their creations.

Summer Exploration in Careers with Boston Public Schools: Working with Boston Public Schools, we customized our Animation and Engineering CTE programs for summer exploration into careers to inspire students.

Write Your Own Book at the Public Library: To encourage young authors from two different communities in Massachusetts, we developed a book writing program for students. Through an online workshop, elementary school students were inspired by Peter H. Reynolds to write a book across town-lines.

Creativity SEL Workshop with Detroit Institute of the Arts: Working with the Detroit Institute of the Arts, we developed a day-long virtual SEL session for Detroit-area teachers. The program included classroom extensions to develop SEL skills. The workshop concluded with a virtual celebration of student work.

Creativity Tools Workshops

Our in-person and virtual workshops provide a space for instructors to get hands-on with our programs, including Animation-ish, FabMaker Studio, Zoombinis, as they learn the technical basics and explore application for the classroom.
